Making your own network cables
I got annoyed with wireless internet at home so I decided to run a cable up to my bedroom. The cheapest way to do this was to buy a pre-cut 20m CAT5e and attach the RJ45 ends myself. I borrowed the crimping tool from work and downloaded the cable diagram. I decided a good time to have a go at this would be Saturday morning when I had a massive hangover, bad idea. Anyway it wasn’t as hard as I thought. There are 8 wires within a CAT5e cable which you need to place in the correct order and then carefully push them into the plug. Once you are happy that they are still in the right order and are all firmly against the connecting pins you crimp it shut. Easy!
An hour and a half later I had tacked the new cable around the skirting and up the stair case. Now I have the connectivity I want all for the tidy sum of £13.90, bargain!
