AuthImage For WordPress Comments

After spending hours and hours hacking around in PHP and configuration files I have finally setup AuthImage on comments. For those who don’t know, AuthImage is a plugin script that generates an image from a list of random words. This is called CAPTCHA. This is a program that can generate and grade tests that most humans can pass, but current computer programs can’t pass.

The user, who is about to comment on your blog, has to type in the word that appears as an image in order to submit the post. This is becoming a very popular method of combating spam.

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Download the ZIP file
  2. Extract the contents to your /plugins directory
  3. Go through the steps in the instructions document
  4. Enjoy!

FYI: If you are using any cool AJAX stuff on your comments (like I am) it may not work unless you update the AJAX script to let the validation happen before the AJAX goes crazy!
